Founded in 1993 by the late Christopher Bird, author of Secret Life of Plants, Secrets of the Soil and the Divining Hand, with his wife Shabari Bird. Shabari Bird and husband Dale Michels graciously host guests on their twelve forested mountain acres with two streams, springs, and pond with mountain views. Enjoy serenity and privacy as you study, contemplate and heal. Our teaching room was donated by the late Arthur Middleton Young- designer of the Bell helicopter and has glass windows looking out upon Echo Mountain to one side and Lac Nest on the other. Birds Nest's four thousand book library is a source of great joy and inspiration. Seven charming and air-conditioned guest rooms and seven baths welcome you. Plus our sixty foot guest porch has an additional four floating beds looking out on Echo Mountain. World famous dowsers have located our seven circuit labyrinth (built by Dale and Shabari as their wedding rings) on the convergence point of five ley lines, one of which is a major line that comes up from the Bermuda Triangle. Camp near our ancient laurel thicket, home to our Fairy Preserve with quartz glistening in the streams. Our Sacred Inipi (sweatlodge) has been ceremonial grounds to numerous traditional native Elders and was built under the instruction of Grace Spotted Eagle, a personal teacher of Shabari's. Our guest dining room is in the Craftsman style with manor house charm and is adjacent to our guest kitchen and guest sleeping porch. The charming Gypsy Wagon on the grounds was built by Dale as a wedding present to Shabari and welcomes all serving as a place of awakening of the inner child . Our Healing Center is equipped with Far Infrared Sauna, steam cabinet, therapy rooms for massage, reiki, Hydrosan Colonics and Lymphstar treatments. Our consultation room includes library and doubles as tea break-room during workshops. Special Rates for Workshop Groups Housing: per person, per night $38 includes linens and towels even for tents Meals: Lunch and Dinner are a separate fee and will be served in the group dining We serve mainly organic vegetarian with occasional fish or organic poultry.
